Though most of the G5 is now a modern toll road, the terrain still shapes the journey: from arid loess hills to lush river valleys.

The route is primarily on the G5 (Jingkun Expressway), with good pavement quality and well-marked signage. The toll for a standard car is approximately 0.5 yuan per kilometer, totaling around 380 yuan. The region around Hanzhong is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Wulingyuan Scenic Area (though that's farther south) – but note: the nearest UNESCO sites to the route are the Longmen Grottoes near Luoyang (a detour) and the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor in Xi'an.
