This coastal-to-inland route links the port city of Weihai to the canal-side metropolis of Changzhou. The drive covers roughly 1,100 kilometers via the G18, G25, and G42 expressways, passing through the Shandong and Jiangsu provinces.

The route passes from the cliffs and seafood towns of Weihai to the flat agricultural plains of Jiangsu, with the Yellow Sea coast as a backdrop for the first few hours. After Lianyungang, the landscape shifts to marshlands and lotus fields—a distinct change from the coastal scenery.

Expressways in the region are well-maintained with clear signage, but weather can be a factor. In winter, expect fog and occasional ice on the Shandong peninsula, so keep a safe distance and use headlights.

For families, service areas on the G18 and G42 are modern and equipped with clean restrooms, fast food restaurants, and even small play areas for children. Most have convenience stores stocked with snacks and beverages.

Pets are allowed in service areas but must be leashed; many have designated pet relief patches. Hotels in intermediate cities like Lianyungang and Huai'an are pet-friendly, but confirm before booking.

To manage fatigue, plan breaks every 2–3 hours. Recommended rest stops include the Changle Service Area (G18, approx. 100 km from Weihai) and the Dafeng Service Area (G15, near Yancheng) which offer green spaces for stretching.
