The road from Tongren, Qinghai to Jiuzhaigou cuts through one of the most seismically active zones on Earth, where the Tibetan Plateau meets the Sichuan Basin. The route is famous for its sharp elevation changes—dropping from 2,500 meters to 2,000 meters—and its proximity to the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake fault lines, which still shape the landscape.
