The region is also rich in cultural heritage. Just off the highway near Changzhi, the Faxing Temple (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) displays exquisite Tang dynasty architecture. Further south, the ancient city of Kaifeng, once the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty, lies 150 kilometers east of Xuchang and is worth a detour if time permits.
