The road quality varies; Thai highways are in good condition, but Lao roads are narrower with fewer barriers. Drive cautiously, especially at night, as street lighting is limited in rural areas. For families, there are several rest stops with playgrounds, such as the one at Khon Kaen's Bueng Kaen Nakhon park. Pets are allowed in most roadside hotels, but check in advance.
