Rehoboth Beach to Jim Thorpe: Ultimate Road Trip Guide

This route traces the fall line where the Atlantic Coastal Plain meets the Piedmont, then climbs into the Appalachian ridges. The journey covers roughly 180 miles and takes 3.5 to 4 hours without stops. You'll traverse DE-1 to US-113, then I-95 and I-476 before winding along PA-903 into Jim Thorpe.

I-95 is a toll road in Delaware and Maryland. Have exact change or an E-ZPass ready for the $4 toll at the Delaware/Maryland line. After crossing into Pennsylvania, I-476 (the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike) charges tolls by distance; total cost approximately $13 for a car.

Crossing into Pennsylvania, you enter the Lehigh Valley, flanked by Blue Mountain and the Pocono Plateau. Jim Thorpe sits in a steep gorge on the Lehigh River, surrounded by the Pocono Mountains.

• Beltzville State Park (PA-903): A large lake with swimming and hiking. Best stop for a picnic.
