The G1 expressway linking Qinhuangdao and Yantai hugs the Bohai Rim, crossing the Yellow River delta and skirting the Laizhou Bay. This corridor has served as a trade artery since the Qin dynasty, when the First Emperor sought immortality on the Zhifu Island. Today, the route spans 768 kilometers, with a drive time between 8 and 10 hours depending on traffic and stops.

The landscape transitions from the rocky shores of Qinhuangdao's Beidaihe to the flat farmlands of Hebei and the tidal wetlands of the Yellow River delta. At the delta, the Yellow River meets the sea, creating a unique marsh ecosystem. Further east, the coast becomes rocky again near Yantai, with vineyards and orchards.
