Pesaro to Przemysl Road Trip: Adriatic to Carpathians

This route connects Pesaro on the Adriatic coast to Przemysl near the Ukrainian border, traversing four countries over 1,200 km. The drive takes roughly 12-14 hours without stops, but we recommend spreading it over two days. One unique fact: at the village of Tarnawa Niżna in the Bieszczady Mountains, just east of Przemysl, you can stand at the tripoint where Poland, Ukraine, and Slovakia meet. The road itinerary follows the A14 in Italy, then the A2 in Austria, the D1 in Czechia, and finally the A4 in Poland.

From Pesaro, take the A14 north to Bologna, then A22 through the Brenner Pass into Austria. After Innsbruck, follow A12/A13 to Salzburg, then A8 to Vienna. From Vienna, head east on the A4 (E58) into Poland, then A4 to Krakow and continue east to Przemysl. Road quality is excellent on motorways (A-roads in Italy, Austria, Czechia, Poland). Watch for speed cameras in Austria (Radarbox) and Poland (fotoradary). In Italy, the A14 near Rimini has frequent traffic jams in summer; leave early. Night illumination is good on all sections except rural stretches in Poland’s Podkarpacie region (east of Rzeszow). Pet-friendly stops: Most Austrian Rasthaus (rest stops) allow dogs inside. In Poland, MOP (parking areas) have designated dog zones.
