Nan to Loei Road Trip: Guide, Stops, and Driving Tips

Driving from Nan to Loei (about 285 km) takes roughly 5-6 hours via Route 1080 and Route 203, crossing the Phi Pan Nam mountains and the northern edge of the Phetchabun range. This route passes through the historic town of Pua, home to the 15th-century Wat Phra That Chae Haeng, one of northern Thailand's most revered chedis.

Road quality is decent but has sharp curves; use low gears downhill. There are no major service areas, but designated rest stops (with toilets) exist at kilometer markers 90 and 150. For families, the Bo Kluea Salt Well near Nan (detour 28 km) is educational, and Dan Sai's Phi Ta Khon Museum is a hit with kids. For pets, many roadside cafes are pet-friendly, but it's wise to bring your own water.
