The drive from Nan to Kamphaeng Phet crosses the Phi Pan Nam Range, where Route 101 winds through terraced hills and teak forests before descending to the central plains. This route, roughly 320 kilometers, is not the fastest way between the two provinces, but it offers a genuine cross-section of northern Thai geography.
