Starting at the junction of I-10 and I-15 in Los Angeles, this 675-mile route to Kanarraville traces the edge of the Mojave Desert and climbs into the high plateaus of southern Utah. Completed in 1973, the I-15 segment through the Virgin River Gorge near the Arizona–Utah border is a distinctive concrete bridge system carved through steep canyon walls.

Driving time is approximately 10 hours without stops, but the journey merits at least two full days to explore the intermediate landscapes. The route passes through the Mojave National Preserve, the Colorado River towns, and the red rock expanse of Zion National Park before descending into Kanarraville.

Summertime temperatures in the Mojave can exceed 115°F; the asphalt softens and tire blowouts increase. Carry extra water and a sunshade for the windshield. Winter brings snow and ice on the Black Ridge summit between St. George and Kanarraville.

For families: the Las Vegas Strip is an obvious stop, but the Clark County Wetlands Park offers free paved trails and bird hides. Pets: most rest areas allow leashed animals, but the Mojave heat can burn paw pads – walk early morning only.
