Ketchum to Chelan Road Trip: Sawtooths to Cascades

The drive from Ketchum, Idaho to Chelan, Washington follows US-20 west then US-97 north, crossing the Snake River Plain and the Columbia Plateau. As you leave Ketchum, the Sawtooth Range gives way to volcanic buttes and lava fields. Further west, the John Day Fossil Beds in Oregon offer stunning painted hills. The drive continues through the Umatilla Indian Reservation, where you can stop for fry bread or native crafts. In Washington, the route follows the Columbia River, with vineyards and fruit stands selling cherries and apples.

Family-friendly stops include the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) satellite in Bend (detour) or the Pendleton Round-Up grounds.
