Huaihua to Tongren Drive Guide: Scenic Route & Stops

Driving from Huaihua to Tongren follows the G60 Shanghai–Kunming Expressway, a route that crosses the border from Hunan into Guizhou province. The expressway runs through the Wuling Mountains, and the trip covers about 160 kilometers (100 miles) with an estimated drive time of 2.5 to 3 hours under normal traffic conditions.

The route passes through the Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, an area known for its karst formations and traditional minority villages. Compared to the parallel G320 national road, the expressway is faster and safer, but the old road offers more intimate views of the rural landscape.

From Huaihua, take the G60 westbound. Stay on it until you reach the Tongren exit, which connects to the city’s ring road. For a scenic alternative, exit at Yuping and take the G320 to Tongren; it adds about 40 minutes but passes through the Yuping Dong Autonomous County.
