Huaian, once a major hub on the Grand Canal, and Jingzhou, a historic capital of the Three Kingdoms period, are linked by a drive of about 700 kilometers. The journey typically takes 8-9 hours by car via the G40 and G50 expressways. This route passes through the flat plains of Jiangsu and Anhui before rising into the low hills of Hubei.

While it might seem like a long haul, driving offers a chance to experience China's shifting geography and local life away from high-speed rail. The trip is worthwhile for those who enjoy flexibility and roadside discoveries.
