The G5 is a toll expressway with excellent signage, and the landscape transitions from the bamboo-covered hills near Leshan to the flat, fertile plains around Mianyang.

The landscape along the G5 is a mix of rolling hills, bamboo groves, and terraced farmland, with the Qionglai Mountains visible to the west on clear days. The Min River, which runs through Leshan, parallels the road for the first 20 kilometers, offering a scenic start to the journey.
