Ghent to Étretat Road Trip: Best Stops & Hidden Gems

Between the Flemish art city of Ghent and the dramatic white cliffs of Étretat lies 280 kilometers of highway and rural roads. The fastest route follows the E17 and A16 via Lille, then the A28 and A29 toward the Normandy coast. Actual driving time is about 3.5 hours without stops, but the journey rewards those who linger.

The route crosses three distinct regions: East Flanders, French Flanders, and the Hauts-de-France before entering Normandy. It passes through the historic city of Lille, the Somme battlefields, and the Côte d'Albâtre. Each segment offers unique stops and scenery.

From Ghent, take the E17 toward Kortrijk. After 50 km, cross into France at the A22 near Tourcoing. Join the A1 toward Lille, then switch to the A16 direction Dunkirk. At junction 28, take the A28 toward Abbeville. After Abbeville, follow the A29 toward Le Havre, exiting at junction 9 for Étretat.
