Emeishan to Yuxi Road Trip: Scenic Drive, Stops & Tips

Mount Emei, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, is one of China's sacred Buddhist mountains. The drive from Emeishan city to Yuxi in Yunnan spans roughly 470 kilometers via the G85 and G5 expressways.

This route transitions from the lush, rainy foothills of Sichuan to the drier, red-earth plateau of Yunnan. A typical journey takes 6 to 8 hours depending on traffic and stops.

The highest point on the route is around 2,500 meters near the Emeishan–Yunnan border; watch for steep grades and fog. Rest areas like the Panzhihua service area have clean facilities and playgrounds.

The main route uses the G5 Beijing–Kunming Expressway and the G85 Chongqing–Kunming Expressway, both in good condition. Fuel stations are plentiful near expressway exits, but less frequent in mountainous stretches.
