Ely to Victor: Utah's Highway 50 & Teton Views

The route from Ely, Nevada to Victor, Idaho spans approximately 300 miles (480 km) across two states, mostly following US-50 (the Loneliest Road in America) and US-93. Located at 39.24°N, 114.89°W, Ely sits at a mile-high elevation, while Victor sits at 6,228 feet near the Wyoming border. The historic Nevada Northern Railway in Ely was used in the 2013 film The Lone Ranger.

Driving time is roughly 4.5 to 5.5 hours without stops. Fuel stations become sparse after Ely; the next major fuel is in Delta, UT (about 128 miles east). Plan accordingly.

From Ely, take US-50 east toward the Utah border. The road is two-lane, well-paved, but remote. After crossing into Utah, continue to Delta. At Delta, join US-6 east to US-89/91 north, then US-93 north to Victor.

In Utah, the Sevier Desert and Fishlake National Forest offer scenic vistas. Near Richfield, UT, there are hot springs. Approaching Victor, the Teton Range dominates the skyline.

• Must-see: Great Basin National Park (Lehman Caves) – 1 hour south of Ely.
• Scenic detour: US-6 over Soldier Summit (high pass).
• Local commerce: Fly-fishing shops in Victor; art galleries in Ely.

This route sees little traffic; travel during daylight. Winter conditions may require chains. Cell service is spotty from Ely to Delta.

For families: The Delta City Park has a playground. In Nephi, the Pioneer Park is a good rest stop. Victor has Teton Springs Lodge with family activities.

Pet-friendly: Most motels along the route accept pets. Rest areas include the Sevier Valley Rest Area (mile 148 on US-50). Carry water and waste bags.

Fatigue management: Take breaks every 2 hours. Recommended stops: Sacramento Pass (summit, scenic view), Delta (fuel and stretch), Nephi (lunch), and the Utah/Idaho border rest area.
