Driving Suzhou to Sanming: Essential Route Guide

Leaving Suzhou's old town, where canal bridges outnumber traffic lights on some streets, you'll head southwest on the G50 Expressway toward Zhejiang. The 890-kilometer drive to Sanming, nestled in the Wuyi Mountains, takes about 11 hours without counting breaks. One of the first things you'll notice is the sudden shift from flat Yangtze Delta farmland to rolling hills after Huzhou.

As you enter central Zhejiang, the terrain becomes a mix of tea terraces and bamboo forests, with the Jinhua and Quzhou basins offering early season rapeseed blooms.
