The drive from Chengdu to Meishan follows the G5 Beijing–Kunming Expressway, a corridor that has linked the Sichuan Basin for centuries. The highway runs parallel to the ancient Southern Silk Road, and you'll pass through the heart of the land of the Shu Han, where irrigation from the Min River has shaped agriculture for over two millennia.

Covering roughly 90 kilometers, the route typically takes about 1.5 hours without traffic. It's a journey perfect for a day trip or a weekend escape, with the landscape shifting from urban sprawl to lush farmland and low hills.

Farther south, near Meishan, the Sanxingdui Museum is not on the direct path, but a 30-minute detour east leads to the Sanxingdui archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bronze Age culture. However, the most iconic UNESCO site within easy reach is the Leshan Giant Buddha, located 50 km southwest of Meishan – a 71-meter-tall statue carved into a cliff, well worth a side trip.

For families, the route is child-friendly: service stations have clean restrooms and small playgrounds, and Huanglongxi offers boat rides and candy-making demos for kids.
