Crossing into Germany near Schaffhausen, the landscape becomes more forested, with the Thuringian Basin bring gentle hills. A must-stop is Lake Brienz, just off the A8 near Interlaken, for turquoise waters. For local commerce, visit the Gruyères village (south of Bern) for cheese and the Naumburg market square for handcrafted pottery.
