The drive from Bend, Oregon to Lava Hot Springs, Idaho covers approximately 350 miles along US-20, I-84, and I-15. Departing Bend, the landscape is high desert with juniper and sagebrush. As you cross into Idaho, the Snake River Plain offers vast agricultural fields of potatoes, sugar beets, and wheat. Near Pocatello, the terrain becomes mountainous with volcanic rock formations.

• Natural attractions: Malheur National Wildlife Refuge (Oregon) for birdwatching, Bruneau Dunes State Park (Idaho) for sand dunes, and Lava Hot Springs itself.
• UNESCO sites: None directly on route, but the nearby City of Rocks National Reserve (2 hours south) is a potential detour.
